Description

“Sea view” shows an open window with the sea beyond it and a vase of pink peonies on the sill. It is about a summer morning on the coast, when the curtains lift in the wind.

What the picture shows

Through the rectangle of the window you see blue water with white breaking waves, grey rocks, a strip of wet sand and gulls high in the sky. Light white curtains with lace edges hang on both sides, and a dark green branch with small white flowers leans in from above. On the sill stand a clear glass vase with pale pink peonies, an open book, a cup on a saucer and a few shells. The palette rests on three notes: the deep blue sea, the warm sand and the pink and white flowers. Beads cover the blooms, curtains, foliage and the objects on the sill, while sea and sky stay mostly as print on the artist canvas. The small shells and the cup on its saucer add a sense of unhurried rest.
