Description

“Flower lace” is a generous bouquet of lilac irises in a pale vase, set on a table covered with white lace. The mood is quiet and slightly festive: warm evening light, soft petals and pearl beads scattered across the cloth.

What the picture shows

The bouquet fills almost the whole canvas. Large irises turn in every direction, their shades running from deep violet and inky blue to pale lilac and near pink, with small orange strokes marking the centres. Long stems carry narrow pointed leaves in rich green, so the bouquet reads as tall and airy. The vase is cream with a moulded pattern; a strand of small pearls lies beside it, and the edge of the table is covered with finely woven white lace. The background is warm ochre-beige and blurred. Beads cover the flowers, leaves, lace and pearls, while the background stays as print on the artist canvas, which is what pushes the bouquet forward.
