Description

“Coffee with lemon” is a warm coffee scene on a lace doily: an antique grinder, a cup of hot coffee and a yellow lemon beside it.

What the picture shows

On the left stands a wooden coffee grinder with a copper hopper and a round handle, a pale plaque reading Cafe on its front panel. A second grinder rises next to it, dark and metal. On the right sits a white-and-blue cup on a saucer, full of dark coffee, with steam curling above it worked in pale beads. A whole lemon and a juicy slice lie in the foreground, with a small spoon beside them. All of it rests on a round white crocheted doily spread over a dark green table, and the background is wallpaper in olive-yellow stripes. Beadwork covers the china, the grinders, the lemons and the lace of the doily, while the striped background stays as print on the artist canvas. The steam above the cup is the palest detail in the piece: it rises in fine wisps and draws the eye immediately.
