Description

“Bears-angels” shows three teddy bears in long pale robes with white wings, making music on a cloud, each with a wreath of flowers on its head.

What the picture shows

The bear on the left, in cream and pink robes, holds a golden mandolin; the smallest one in the centre wears a powder-pink dress with a bow and plays a small stringed instrument; the third, on the right, has a tall golden harp. The wings are white and soft, barely separated from the pale background, and the wreaths are woven from tiny white flowers and green leaves. Waves of white cloud, worked in pale beads with blue shadows, support the composition from below. The background is warm watercolour in green, ochre and orange, and it stays as print on the canvas, while beadwork covers the bears themselves, their robes, the instruments and the clouds, giving the figures real relief. The composition is triangular: two larger bears at the sides and the smallest in the middle, so the eye settles at once on the centre.
