Description

“Hover” shows two white herons rising into the air, their wings catching coloured ribbons that swirl across a turquoise background.

What the picture shows

The birds are set diagonally, one above the other: the upper one has its wings spread wide, the lower has just pushed off and stretched its neck forward. The plumage is stitched in white and silver beads with greenish and turquoise shifts, and the beaks are dark, almost black, drawn in long thin lines. Wavy ribbons sweep up from below and from the side — lilac, violet, mint, pink and cream — repeating the movement of the wings and making the composition genuinely airborne. The background is emerald blue with blurred patches and runs that read like water. Beads cover the birds and the ribbons, while the deep background stays as print on the canvas, so the pale elements step clearly forward. The composition is built on a diagonal, so the eye travels upward from below, following the birds, and the piece never looks static.
