Description

“Talismans of happiness” shows two birds touching beaks in the middle of exuberant ornament made of trees, flowers, butterflies and little keys. The most colourful piece in this selection: twenty-nine bead colours.

What the picture shows

Two birds with yellow breasts and long tails sit at the centre; their heads lean towards each other so that a heart forms between them. A tree with red berries grows on the right, and beside it a blue tree covered in small multicoloured flowers. Scrolls, spirals, leaves and blossoms in red, orange, turquoise and violet spread out to the left and below, and the birds' tails run straight into that pattern. A gold butterfly flies above them, another shows on the left, and two small keys hang from slender stems at the sides. Beads are laid densely across the whole surface, in single dots and arcs, so the piece reads like a mosaic: the background barely shows and the ornament shimmers. The finer details are stitched one bead at a time along each line, so the pattern asks for attention — but the finished canvas holds the light from any angle.
