Description

“Red and black” shows a red vintage car head-on against a Paris boulevard with the Eiffel Tower behind it. A graphic piece worked in just twelve bead colours.

What the picture shows

The front of the car fills the lower two thirds of the canvas: a massive chrome grille with vertical bars, round headlights in chrome rims, a red wing and a bonnet with a bright ornament on its nose. Above and to the left rises the silhouette of the Eiffel Tower, while the line of city roofs and two thin-leaved trees stretch to the right. A black street lamp with three globes stands in the middle, with another of the same kind on the right. Black birds fly across the sky, and the word Paris is written at the top in red script. Beads cover the car, the lamps, the birds, the lettering and the tree crowns, while the ochre-beige background with its city panorama stays as print — so the tower reads as a light shadow behind the bright car. The grille is worked in even vertical rows of grey and silver, and that regularity is what produces the chrome effect. The red bodywork uses three shades, from dark at the edges to an almost white highlight on the bonnet.
