Description

“Cat's kiss” shows two cats pressed together under a moon, against a mosaic background in the spirit of Klimt. A warm and heavily ornamental piece.

What the picture shows

The ginger cat sits in front with its tail curled around its paws; its coat is covered with gold circles, stars and floral rosettes. Behind it is a dark cat with green eyes, gold spirals and dots along its side. Their muzzles touch, and the whiskers are worked in long stitches. The background is split on the diagonal: blue mosaic of small squares on the left and above, a gold field with sun discs and sunflower-like rosettes on the right. A blue and gold crescent moon shines in the top left corner, with a smaller one on the right. Lower down the background turns into blue scrolls and dots. Twenty-seven bead colours give a smooth run from deep blue to warm gold, and nearly the whole surface is covered. The patterns on the fur are worked as single beads laid in circles, so each rosette reads clearly even from a distance. The background is filled with even little squares, giving the same mosaic texture as the paintings that inspired it.
