Main Bead Embroidery Kit Service with dots
Description
“Service with dots” shows a big terracotta teapot covered in white polka dots and a matching cup beside it, both giving off steam. A simple domestic scene painted in an almost naive, flat manner.
What the picture shows
The teapot fills nearly the whole left half of the canvas: a rounded brick-red body, a tall neck, a curved spout and a lid with a dark knob, with large cream dots scattered over the whole surface. To the right stands a matching cup on a saucer, releasing a curl of white steam, while a second wisp rises from the spout. The table is dark brown and covered with a white lace cloth in a bold pattern that hangs over the edge. The background is pieced together like a quilt: blue, green, yellow and turquoise squares with small patterns of their own. Beads cover the china, the steam, the lace and part of the patchwork, while the rest of the background stays as print — so the bright china never gets lost among the busy squares. The dots are worked as single light beads laid straight onto the red field, which makes the teapot look rounded. The lace on the cloth is worked in white and dark brown, so the pattern reads like real openwork.
