Main Bead Embroidery Kit Ballad about flowers
Description
“Ballad about flowers” is a bouquet of cream and peach roses in a bronze vase, framed by embroidered baroque ornament. A warm piece with a slightly antique mood.
What the picture shows
Five open roses and several buds stand at the centre: the petals run from white and cream to peach and soft pink, with darker ochre hearts. The leaves are large and dark green with clear veining. The vase is low and footed, the colour of dark bronze with a chased pattern; it stands on a wooden tabletop, and a leaf and a single bloom have fallen beside it. The background inside is olive gold and free of detail, so the flowers read at once. The frame is embroidered directly on the canvas: brown and gold scrolls in the corners, symmetrical crests above and below, and small red and gold rosettes along the edge. Beads cover the flowers, the vase and the whole frame ornament, so the piece looks finished before it is even mounted. The petals are worked in rows that follow the shape of each bloom, so in the light the roses look faintly lit from within. The frame ornament, by contrast, is filled in even diagonal rows, which keeps the scrolls crisp.
