Description

“Summer water colours-3” shows a large dragonfly with blue-lilac wings against a round frame, behind which are mountains, boulders and a falling stream. The third piece of the watercolour series, and the coolest in colour.

What the picture shows

The dragonfly spreads its wings across almost the full width of the canvas: they are worked in blue, lilac and white beads with dark veining, while the long body is blue and silver with black segments. The circle behind it is made of two arcs, green below and yellow-orange above. Inside the ring are a snow-covered ridge, dark boulders and a narrow waterfall dropping down. Violets grow at the upper left and lower centre — white and purple flowers with yellow eyes and carved dark green leaves. Beads cover the dragonfly, the flowers, the leaves and the frame, while the misty green-blue background stays as print, which is why the wings look half transparent. The wings are worked in rows that follow the veins, so in the light the beads visibly shift from blue to near white. The violets are built from smaller dots, and their leaves from two tones of green, dark and fresh.
