Description

“Summer water colours-1” places a blue butterfly and large blue flowers inside a round frame, through which snowy peaks and a rainbow are visible. A light watercolour piece that works like a window onto another landscape.

What the picture shows

The composition is held by a circle: its lower half is worked in blue beads, while the upper half is a rainbow of yellow, orange, pink and pale blue bands. Inside the circle are a snow-covered mountain ridge, a bright sky and a thin strip of water at the foot of the slope. Four large blue flowers with yellow centres and toothed dark green leaves are set around the ring, with pink flower spikes rising on slender stems between them. The butterfly sits at the centre: its wings are lilac-blue with a pink border and white dots along the edge. Beads cover the flowers, the leaves, the butterfly and the ring itself, while the blurred background with pink and blue washes and small stars stays as print — and that is what gives the piece its watercolour softness. The petals are worked in pale blue with white highlights along the edges, and the leaves in two shades of green, so the flowers never merge into one another.
