Main Bead Embroidery Kit Summer palette

“Summer palette” is a decorative bouquet in a blue and white jug, gathered from full dahlias, small blossoms and eastern paisley shapes. A picture in the spirit of bright folk painting.

What the picture shows

At the centre are two large lilac-pink dahlias with densely worked petals, surrounded by blue, yellow and orange flowers, red spikes and green leaves. Turquoise spirals and paisley motifs curl between them like painted ornament. The jug is rounded and white, with a blue floral pattern and a broad foot. The background inside is warm lemon yellow, and a wide blue border with white scrolls runs around the edge; a band of waves dotted with pink and green closes the composition at the bottom. Beads cover the flowers, the jug, the scrolls and the wave band, while the yellow ground and part of the border pattern stay as print, so the ornament stays easy to read and never overloads the piece. The dahlia petals are worked in concentric rows from the centre outwards, so the flowers look rounded even without shading. The small blossoms and flower hearts are picked out in lighter beads that contrast with the saturated blue around the border.
