Main Bead Embroidery Kit House at the lake

“House at the lake” is a storybook cottage with a thatched roof by still water, buried in apple and lilac blossom. It carries the mood of a warm May morning, when the garden has just opened and swans are already on the pond.

What the picture shows

The composition runs from the flowering branches in the top left corner to the white picket fence and its flower bed on the right. At the centre stands the house with a wavy reed roof, a tall brick chimney and white walls crossed by dark beams; ivy covers part of them. To the left of the path a small waterfall drops into the pond, where two swans are swimming. The palette rests on three groups: lilac and pink blossom, the warm ochre and brown of the roof, and the deep green of the garden. Beads cover the blossoms, the roof, the fence, the flowers along it and the highlights on the water, while the misty background with tall trees and distant woodland stays as print on the canvas, so the flowers stand clearly above that soft hazy depth.
