Description

“Pink gauze” is a pale still life with roses, a basket of strawberries and white lace. Everything is built on a pastel, slightly misted palette.

What the picture shows

The canvas is horizontal and the objects are arranged along a table. On the left and in the centre stands a large glass vase of roses: cream, peach, pale pink and crimson blooms with tight centres, dark green leaves between them. On the right a clear glass holds a small posy of white daisies and tiny yellow flowers. In the middle, in front of the vase, sits a wicker basket full of red strawberries, with a few berries scattered over the cloth. The table is covered with white fabric in soft folds and a lace edge worked in pale and pearl beads. A few roses lie directly on the table to the left. The blurred grey-pink background stays as print, so the beaded flowers, berries and lace step clearly forward.
