Description

“Fire in sky blue - 1” shows a single tree with a burning crown above blue water. The picture is handled as a mosaic: the whole image is built from short strokes of colour.

What the picture shows

The canvas is narrow and tall, and the composition is stripped down: a slim pale trunk rises almost from the bottom edge, and at the top it opens into a round crown of orange, red, crimson and gold beads. Everything else is blue. Sky and water run in horizontal bands of different shades, from deep ultramarine to turquoise and steel blue, with white and pale blue dashes that imitate brushstrokes. At the foot of the trunk sits a small island of grass flecked with green and yellow. In the lower third everything repeats as a reflection: orange, yellow and white glints scatter across the dark water. The beads cover the entire surface, so the work reads like a mosaic panel.

The piece is vertical and very narrow, so it holds the wall between two windows or a slim stretch of hallway wall. Gallery finishing is possible — no frame or mount needed, the canvas stretches over a bar and hangs as it is.
