“Fabulous summer” is the same storybook cottage in summer: a red roof, a garden in bloom and a pink flowering tree above the fence.

What the picture shows

The house stands deep in the garden: the walls are cream and sand, the roof is worked in saturated red and terracotta, and a white window glows in the attic gable. On the left grows a tree in pink blossom whose crown fills the entire upper corner; below it you can see a white picket fence and blue flowers. Tall pink hollyhocks run along the wall, a blaze of red and orange flowers burns lower down, and between them are lush greenery and grey stones along the path. Tall dark trees like cypresses close the view behind. Twenty-four shades — the most of any square subject here — and almost half of them are greens, so the foliage comes out alive rather than flat. The flowers are stitched in small clusters of beads in different shades, so the border does not look flat, while the path and the stones stay as print and lead the eye deeper into the garden.
