Main Bead Embroidery Kit World map - 2
Description
“World map - 2” is the central panel of the map: Africa and Europe in flowing colour.
What the picture shows
Green dominates here: the mass of Africa is worked in emerald, grass and marsh beads with blue and ochre patches mixed in. Europe and the Mediterranean at the top are handled differently — in pink, crimson and warm sand — which makes the upper part of the canvas read lighter. At the edges you can see fragments of the neighbouring continents: a pink and violet Greenland at the top left and the edge of South America below, and these are exactly what join this panel to the ones beside it. The background is the same as in the other parts: cream paper with golden stains, left as print. Fifteen shades give more transitions inside each landmass, so the colour patches come out deeper. Beads go onto the landmasses only and the background stays bare, so this panel works up quickly even though it carries the largest area of land in the whole triptych.

The piece is narrow and vertical, the central one in the triptych with “World map - 1” and “World map - 3”: hung side by side with an even gap, the three panels join into one continuous map. A row like that works well above a desk or along a hallway. Gallery finishing is possible — the canvas stretches over a bar.
