Main Bead Embroidery Kit World map - 1
Description
“World map - 1” shows North and South America laid out in patches of colour on a sheet of aged paper.
What the picture shows
This is the first part of a triptych: the continents look as though they were first washed in watercolour and then translated into beads. North America is built from crimson, blue, lilac and white; towards the south the colours warm into red and cherry, while South America stretches down as a narrow band with blue and purple flecks. The outlines of the landmasses read accurately, yet there are no borders and no labels inside them — only colour. The background stays as print on the canvas: creamy yellow paper with golden droplets and stains that imitates an antique map. Thirteen shades are arranged so that neighbouring patches never repeat each other. Beads go onto the continents only and the background is not stitched at all, so the kit suits beginners too: the difficulty is not the number of stitches but holding the colour boundaries exactly.
