Main Bead Embroidery Kit Prayer

“Prayer” shows a little girl with her palms pressed together, a lit candle beside her and an unrolled scroll bearing the text of the Lord's Prayer.

What the picture shows

The girl is seen almost in profile: dark hair falls over her shoulders, her eyes are raised, her palms are folded in front of her chest. She wears a pale blue and white shirt with red embroidery on the sleeve and collar — the shirt and its ornament carry the densest beadwork, which makes the fabric look raised. Her face, her hair and the warm brown-gold background stay as print on the canvas, keeping the painterly softness while the beads act as the accent. On the left a candle burns in a glass vessel, above it the scroll unrolls with the prayer, and a strand of beads hangs at the very edge. Thirteen colours make a restrained palette built on blue, white, red and ochre. The red embroidery on the sleeve repeats a real folk ornament and becomes the brightest patch in the whole piece — the other colours are deliberately muted so as not to draw attention away from the face.
