Description

“Prayer” shows a little girl with folded hands beside a scroll bearing the Lord's Prayer. A quiet domestic scene painted in warm, muted light.

What the picture shows

On the right stands a girl of about six: dark hair falls to her shoulders, her gaze is lifted, her palms are pressed together at her chest. She wears a blue and white pinstriped shirt, and the red embroidered band with a diamond pattern on the chest and sleeve is the part worked in bright beads. On the left a pale scroll opens on the wall with the Lord's Prayer written out line by line in Ukrainian. A candle burns in a simple holder below the scroll, and a small wooden cross hangs on a cord above. The background is a warm ochre wall left as print; the beadwork goes mainly into the shirt, the ornament, the flame and the edges of the scroll.
