“Fabulous winter - 2” shows a cluster of red-roofed cottages sunk in snow, with a tall chimney trailing smoke.

What the picture shows

The scene continues “Fabulous winter - 1”, but here there are more houses: they huddle close together, their roofs under soft drifts, and above them rises a pale brick chimney with white smoke curling up in a spiral. Christmas wreaths with red bows hang on the doors and under the windows, and small fir trees grow beside them. On the left a bare little tree carries red berries with a bird perched on a branch. Behind the houses you can see hills with further rooftops, and the sky is taken in white and blue. Eighteen shades are distributed so that the warmest of them — the reds and ochres — gather on the roofs and wreaths, while the rest hold the cold snowy range. Smoke, snow and sky flow into one another in pale tones with almost no dark lines, which makes the scene read like an illustration from a children's book, soft and without hard outlines.
