Description

“Fabulous winter - 1” is a country cottage under a steep red roof, buried in fresh snow.

What the picture shows

At the centre stands a stone house with a tall pointed roof worked in shades of red and terracotta; caps of snow sit on it, while the walls glow with warm cream beads that spell out the masonry and the arched doorway. On the left a black lantern tops a stone post wound with a wreath of greenery and red bows. A holly branch with glossy red berries enters the frame from above. All around are snow-laden fir trees, a path of stone slabs and drifts laid in white and pale blue beads. The sky curls in waves of light blue and white with small birds flying through it. Twenty colours let the snow read with shadow rather than flat, from near white to grey-blue. The reds are restrained and gathered only on the roof, the holly berries and the bows, so they do not argue with the snow but light it up instead.
