Description

“Midnight hues” is a decorative pair of owls on branches: a large dark bird with huge blue eyes and a very small owlet pressed against its side.

What the picture shows

The plumage is drawn as ornament — spirals, circles, toothed bands and dots in brown, ochre, turquoise and wine tones, in a style close to stained glass. Behind them a big white moon glows with curling lines, and the branches have turned into flowing lilac and blue ribbons. The background is filled with decorative diamonds, small circles and tiny flowers, with a wavy band of dots running along the bottom. The colour range is cool — violet, blue, mint and grey-blue — and against it the warm brown owls read especially clearly. The beads cover almost the entire field, so the finished work is dense and catches the light in any room. The birds sit facing forward side by side, and the difference in their size is obvious at once.
