Main Bead Embroidery Kit Playmates

“Playmates” is an evening on a balcony above a Venetian canal: two women have lingered at their table with the whole night city laid out in front of them.

What the picture shows

One sits with her back to the viewer in a red backless dress, the other stands beside her in a long dark blue gown holding a glass. On the round table there is a bottle and two glasses of red wine. A house wall with a lantern rises on the right, while a balustrade with flower boxes runs along the left. Beyond the balcony the canal opens up: a bridge, gondolas at their moorings, a row of lit palazzi, a café terrace under striped awnings and a full moon in a burgundy-violet sky. The water is stitched with pale vertical trails of reflected light. The palette is nocturnal — cherry, violet and silvery blue, with warm dots of lamplight. Both figures are given almost as silhouettes, with no detailed faces, so the attention goes to the view.
