Main Bead Embroidery Kit Air balloons

“Air balloons” is a night balloon festival above water: four huge envelopes stand near the shore and their light falls across the river in long streaks.

What the picture shows

The balloons are stitched in broad wedges of colour — orange, yellow, crimson, blue and green — and the glow of the burner shows inside each of them. The background is a deep blue-violet, close to full night, with sharp strokes that recall palette-knife painting. Along the bank runs a dark band with the silhouettes of people, small but clearly readable. The lower third of the canvas belongs to the reflection, laid in vertical strokes of red, orange, lilac and turquoise and deliberately blurred, as if the water were gently moving. The beads cover the balloons, the lights and the whole band of reflections, so the picture glows from within even under ordinary lighting. Between the balloons you can see white tents and low buildings, barely outlined by the lamplight.
