Description

“Pink tenderness” is a generous still life with a wicker basket lying on its side and roses and peonies spilling out of it onto the table.

What the picture shows

The basket, with its tall curved handle, is stitched in warm honey and golden-brown beads, so the weave is easy to read. Around it lie large blooms in every shade of pink — from pale pearl and powder to deep crimson and almost cherry — with white and cream centres. Between them sit lush green leaves and small buds, while another blossom on the left runs off the edge of the composition. The background is blurred in warm pink and beige tones with the faint outlines of more flowers, and it stays as print on the canvas. The beadwork covers the basket, the blooms and the leaves, which gives the bouquet a real sense of volume. A few petals have fallen and lie apart from the rest, which makes the still life feel even more relaxed.
