What the picture shows

The three saints stand side by side on a stone floor, each with a golden halo and a small name inscription above the head. On the left is a white-haired elder with a beard, in blue undergarments and a dark red cloak, holding a cross. In the centre stands a figure in pale grey with a red lower robe and a wide decorated shoulder collar. On the right is a young saint in a blue cloak over a green tunic, also holding a cross. The background is even and blue, so the figures read clearly. The surround is built from squares with blue and red rosettes on a light ground, with a lettered band along the bottom. The beads cover the haloes, the garments, the crosses, the floor and the whole border; the faces and hands stay as print on the canvas, as befits an icon subject.
