Description

“Dating” shows a couple hiding behind the brim of a straw hat in order to kiss. The subject is warm and a little playful, in a bright autumn range.

What the picture shows

The girl stands almost with her back to the viewer: long wavy red hair, a pink corset, an orange skirt falling in a wide wave, and a patterned shawl over her shoulder. With one hand she holds up a large straw hat, screening the kiss from anyone watching. The young man in a light shirt leans towards her, holding a small bouquet of red and yellow autumn leaves. Behind them you can see the wrought-iron pattern of a railing or gate and a softly blurred ochre-gold wall. The beads cover the hat, the corset, the skirt, the shawl, the shirt and the ironwork; the faces, hands, hair and background stay as painted print on the canvas, which makes the clothing look even richer in texture.
