Main Bead Embroidery Kit Among Water-lilies

“Among Water-lilies” shows a large dragonfly resting on a stem among lily pads, with a lilac water lily open beside it. The whole scene is built on shifting purples and emeralds in the water.

What the picture shows

The dragonfly holds the centre of the picture: its long wings, veined in lilac and blue, lie across the green leaves while its slender body and legs grip the stem. At the top right a flower has opened with sharp lilac-pink petals and a yellow centre, and on the left an unopened bud rises on a long stem. Below the leaves lies the water — dark, streaked with violet and green, with thin rings on the surface. The background is painted in broad impressionist strokes, so it stays slightly blurred. The beads cover the dragonfly, the lily pads, the flower and its bud, and the bright highlights on the water; the depth of the pond and the far leaves stay as print on the canvas, which is why the dragonfly's wings read first.
