Main Bead Embroidery Kit After the rain

“After the rain” is a Paris street just after a downpour: the cobblestones are still wet and soak up every shop light, while the grey-blue outline of the Eiffel Tower rises deep in the perspective. The mood is warm and a little dreamy despite the weather that has just passed.

What the picture shows

The street draws the eye into the picture. On the left there is a flower stall under a striped awning, with red, pink and yellow bouquets standing in buckets right on the pavement; on the right a café stretches out with a crimson canopy, wicker chairs and tables outdoors. A couple walks away down the middle of the roadway, and a few more figures dissolve into the misty haze closer to the tower. Beadwork goes onto the brightest parts: the flowers, the canopies and awnings, the lanterns and warm windows, the sign frames and the patches of reflection in the puddles. The sky, the haze and the tower itself stay as soft print on the canvas, which is why the air really does feel damp. The palette rests on warm ochre and red patches set against the cool blue-grey of wet stone.
