“December snowing” is an old city street under December snow. Houses with tall windows crowd along the narrow roadway, a church tower rises in the distance, and a black vintage car stands in the foreground beside a wrought-iron gate. The snow falls thickly and settles on everything.

What the picture shows

The palette is warm and cold at once: ochre and terracotta façades lit from within against grey-blue shadows and white snow. Beads cover the snow on the cornices, branches and paving, the windows with their warm light, the tree in the middle of the street and the body of the car — white and pearl beads build an effect of heavy snowfall that genuinely reads as movement. The distant buildings, the smoky sky and the blurred outlines of the city stay as print on the artist canvas, which makes the street feel deep. The lamp on the left and the wires above the roadway give the street its recognisable old-city look.
