Main Bead Embroidery Kit Banquet

“Banquet” is an evening scene outside a large mansion with a lit veranda and a glasshouse. The windows glow warm gold, the paved square in front reflects the lights, and guests in pale clothes drift unhurriedly towards the entrance. A white carriage and horses wait at the left.

What the picture shows

The sky above the scene is lilac-pink and close to dusk, and against it the yellow of the windows and lamps stands out sharply. The colours are warm: ochre, terracotta, mint green on the walls of the house, and a great many small flecks of flowers in the beds on the right. Beads cover the façade, the glasshouse, the lamps, the flower beds and the paving with its reflections — and it is those reflections on the wet stone that give the picture its depth. The tree canopy overhead and part of the sky stay as print on the artist canvas, framing the scene in a natural arch. The lamps along the walk repeat in a steady rhythm and, together with the small figures of the guests, set the scale of the scene.
