“Winter morning” is a quiet snowbound landscape: a wooden cabin with a lit window on the hillside, an old footbridge over the frozen river and a village in the distance. Snow lies generously on the fir branches and the slopes, and the sky is turning pink in the east.

What the picture shows

The range is cool and soft — white, blue, lilac and grey-blue in the shadows, warmed by yellow lights in the windows and a few red roofs far off. Beads cover the snow on the branches and the ground, the firs, the walls of the cabin and the wooden rails of the bridge; it is the beadwork that makes the snow sparkle and gives it depth. The distant hills, the sky and the blurred line of forest stay as print on the artist canvas, so the perspective is kept.
