“Summer aroma-3” is a bunch of red poppies with daisies and cornflowers in a white and blue jug. The poppies are fully open, their petals almost glowing against the pale wall, and loose petals and single blooms lie scattered on the table. The mood is a hot July afternoon somewhere in the countryside.

What the picture shows

The bouquet is upright and densely packed: large red and crimson poppies hold the centre, daisies show white between them, small cornflowers add blue, and yellow and green spikes break upwards. The jug is pale blue and white and almost dissolves into the cool background, which makes the flowers look brighter still. Beads cover the flowers, the greenery, the jug and the striped tabletop, while the light rectangle behind the bouquet and the soft wall stay as print on the canvas. Stems and spikes deliberately break past the painted frame, so the bouquet looks livelier than a studio arrangement.
