“Smart eagle owl” shows a large stylised owl with round green eyes perched among decorative flowers and foliage. The piece is ornate and ornamental, in the spirit of hand-painted folk art.

What the picture shows

The bird is beaded in shades of blue, turquoise and emerald: the breast feathers are laid out in rows of scales, the wings are patterned with stripes and dots, and a necklace of small discs sits at the throat. The eyes are large, with a bright green iris and a black pupil, and the beak is a warm ochre. Fantasy flowers spread all around: coral blooms with fine petals at the upper left, creamy white calla bells below, red poppies on the right, carved green leaves and clusters of red berries. Every petal and every feather carries its own small pattern, so the piece rewards a close look. The background is a muted grey with faint patterning, and against it the coloured flora rings out cleanly. Beads cover the bird, the flowers and the berries, while the background and some of the blurred foliage stay as print on the canvas.
