What the picture shows

The angel wears a long-sleeved white robe and red shoes, and the fair hair is lit from behind by a wide golden glow. The path underfoot is paved with warm golden stones and runs into the depth of the picture, with dense greenery and shrubs on both sides. Far off on a hill rise the grey silhouettes of city walls and towers. The top of the composition is framed by branches heavy with large red apples among dark leaves, while two textured tree trunks close the picture at the sides; a small lantern hangs on a cord in the upper right. Beads cover the angel’s robe, the apples, the foliage, the path and the bark, while the glow of the halo, the face and the distant walls stay as print on the canvas.
