Description

“Dinner room buffet” is a dark tiered dresser loaded with crockery, with rose trees standing on its counter in a jug and in pots. The picture is warm and dense in colour, in a burgundy and copper range.

What the picture shows

At the centre is a large rounded tree of red roses growing straight out of a bellied orange-terracotta jug. Two smaller bushes with finer red flowers stand on either side, one in a white pot and one in terracotta. On the right of the counter sits a basket of pink and white blooms. The dresser shelves are filled with vessels: copper kettles, jugs, plates, a white mug, and on the very top a dark blue ribbed vase and a small white bouquet in a tall one. The frame of the dresser is beaded in burgundy and copper laid in even rows, so the wood reads as smooth and polished. The olive-beige wall behind stays as print on the canvas, and the flowers and china glow against it.
