“Christmas Party” shows three little ones with angel wings gathered around a festive table, just reaching for a berry pie. The mood is warm and slightly mischievous: everyone wears a different expression, and a blue cat watches the dessert from under the table.

What the picture shows

The scene takes place in a room with pale blue walls carrying white carved ornaments, with a small icon in a golden frame hanging to one side. The table is covered with a pink cloth trimmed in lace and holds a plate of pie, cups and a green jug. The boy in a green jacket stretches his spoon towards the berries, the girl in a lilac dress rests her cheek on her hand, and the smallest one in green dungarees with two ponytails sits on the right. Beads cover the clothes, the tablecloth, the china, the wall ornaments and the floor, while the faces, hands and hair stay as print on the canvas — which is why they look soft and painterly against the glitter of the stitching.
