Main Bead Embroidery Kit Sunny pulse

“Sunny pulse” is a giant sunflower filling the whole frame, with a vortex of colour spinning around it. The piece is energetic, in the spirit of post-impressionist painting.

What the picture shows

The flower faces the viewer head on: yellow petals radiate from the centre, and the disc is wound into a spiral running from a green eye at its core out to golden and dark brown at the rim. The petals are laid down in separate strokes with pale highlights across them. The background is anything but calm — russet, red and orange whirls run through a grey-violet field, and long green ribbon leaves push between them, curling into spirals. Beadwork covers the sunflower, the disc, the leaves and the brightest swirls of the background, while the grey-violet areas stay as print, so the flower glows against a muted ground. The petals differ in length, some bent and curled under, so the flower never looks symmetrical. Small pale beads along the petal edges stand in for dew, and dark green leaves below curl into a ring. The background around the flower pulses like heated air.
