Main Bead Embroidery Kit Foul weather

“Foul weather” shows a couple kissing in the rain in the middle of a grey city, as though the weather around them were somebody else’s problem.

What the picture shows

A man in a long brown coat and hat holds a woman in a bright red coat and red beret — the only saturated patch of colour in the whole picture. The black umbrella has dropped and is nearly slipping from his hand. Behind them, the façades of tall apartment buildings with rows of windows dissolve into blue-grey mist, and park benches and a low railing stand on either side. The wet pavement is covered with pale reflections picked out in individual beads. Beadwork covers the figures, the coats, the umbrella, the benches and the shine on the paving, while the blurred buildings and the sky stay as print — the city recedes and the couple stays at the centre of attention. Their faces are almost hidden: only the brim of the hat, the red beret and a hand on a shoulder are visible. The rain is shown as short pale dashes scattered across the whole frame.
