Main Bead Embroidery Kit Performance

“Performance” is a Venetian carnival packed into a square: masks, lace ruffs, peacock-feather fans and a red heart in the middle of the celebration.

What the picture shows

Against a deep blue background, the silhouette of a Venetian palace with domes appears at the top. Below it are three masks: a white one with gold tracery in the centre, a pearly one with pale blue ribbons underneath, and a third, darker one in profile. Around them spread full white ruffs, curling horns and open fans with peacock eyes in emerald, turquoise and black-gold. Strings of pink beads above read like festive garlands, and a bright red heart glows on the right. Beadwork goes onto the masks, feathers, lace and ornaments, while the blue background mostly stays as print — which is what pushes the carnival detail forward and makes it shine. Small white and gold beads along the edges of the masks work like stage sequins, and broad green and turquoise feathers fill the lower edge of the frame.
