Main Bead Embroidery Kit Snowstorm

“Snowstorm” is a snow-covered city avenue under heavy snowfall, with the dome of a large cathedral barely showing through the white haze. The mood is quiet and frosty, as if the whole city had been turned down to the sound of snow underfoot.

What the picture shows

The composition rests on two old trees on either side of the avenue, their frost-covered branches closing over the top of the picture. Three cast-iron lamps recede down the middle with a warm amber glow — the only warm note in an otherwise cold blue and grey palette. A wrought-iron embankment railing runs along the left, a line of footprints winds across fresh snow, and two figures walk away into the distance. Beadwork covers the snow on the branches, the drifts, the lamplight and the flakes in the air, which is where the sparkle and relief come from. The misty architecture and the sky stay as print on the canvas, so the depth of the scene is kept. The snow falls in a dense curtain that all but closes off the far distance, which is why the cathedral dome reads only as a hint.
