Main Bead Embroidery Kit The Magdalen in Penitence
Description
“The Magdalen in Penitence” is a female figure in a red cloak beside a stone wall, her gaze raised upward. The composition is restrained and the colour is saturated.
What the picture shows
She stands nearly full length, turned three quarters; long dark hair falls over her shoulders, her right hand is pressed to her chest and her left gathers the cloth. She wears a black off-the-shoulder dress with a silvery sheen, and over it a wide bright red cloak that falls in heavy folds to the ground, one bare foot showing beneath. On the left an opening in the wall reveals a light landscape with a gate and distant hills; on the right a terracotta jug stands on a stone ledge. Green ivy climbs the walls, worked leaf by leaf in small beads. Beads cover the cloak, the dress, the hair, the ivy and the jug, while the background, the walls and the landscape stay as print. Twelve colours gather around red, black and green.
