Description

“On the hook” shows a pike leaping out of the water after a lure, caught at its most dynamic moment. The piece is energetic, full of spray and movement.

What the picture shows

The fish is shown mid-leap, body rising to the left, its mouth wide open and teeth visible. The back is worked in dark green and olive beads, the flanks lighten towards grey-lilac, and the fins and tail are bright red and orange, which makes them the main accent. In the upper right a hook with a red soft lure hangs on a thin line, and the pike reaches for it. White spray flies all around, stitched in small pale beads across the whole field of the picture. The background is a smooth shift from turquoise to warm yellow with a white burst of wave; it stays as print on the canvas. Eighteen colours carry the green scales, the red-orange fins and the cool tones of the water.
