Main Bead Embroidery Kit Jazz age girls (Part 3)
Description
“Jazz age girls – 3” is the third piece in the series: a girl in a pink-lilac dress with a red hat and a folded umbrella, against a deep blue ground. The mood is cooler than in the first two.
What the picture shows
She stands almost in profile, leaning slightly back; the wide brim of the red-orange hat covers her forehead, with fair hair and bright lips showing beneath. The long dress is worked in pink and lilac beads with an iridescent shift, bangles sit at her wrist, and she holds a folded dark red umbrella with a wooden handle. In the lower left the silhouette of an old steam locomotive emerges, stitched in muted blue-violet tones. The background is a saturated blue field with decorative swirls, circles and lines, some picked out in fine beads and the rest left as print. Eighteen colours give both the warm patch of the hat and the cool depth of the ground, and the dense stitching is concentrated on the dress, the hat, the umbrella and the locomotive, so the main objects step forward.
