Description

“Aquarius” shows a clay jug pouring a wave straight into the sky. The piece feels fresh, with a real sense of moving water.

What the picture shows

A terracotta jug tilts in the upper part of the circle, wide-mouthed and round-handled, its side decorated with a golden scroll of ornament and edged with bands of ochre beads. A stream spills from the neck: large waves worked in blue, turquoise and emerald beads, crests topped with white pearl, and small droplets glowing inside the curls. A round medallion with the Aquarius glyph — two wavy lines — sits at the lower right. The background is printed on the canvas: a light blue sky with white clouds and a small bird above. Beadwork runs over the jug, the waves, the rosettes and the ring, which is what gives the stream its volume.
