Description

“Libra” shows an openwork balance against a summer sky. It is the airiest and most symmetrical piece in the series.

What the picture shows

A pair of scales stands at the centre of the circle: a tall stem on a wide carved base, a beam with two curved wings, and two pans hung on golden arcs. The structure is beaded in blue, light blue and white, while the pans are golden ochre with brown undersides, so they warm up against the cool background. A round medallion with the Libra glyph sits at the heart of the beam, crowned by a diamond shape with a pearl centre. Orange-white and pale blue rosettes are scattered on both sides. The background is printed on the canvas: a clear blue sky with light clouds and a small bird in the upper right. Only the scales and the surrounding ring are beaded.
