Description

“Leo” is a lion's head whose mane is laid out in smooth golden curls. The piece is light, warm and slightly regal.

What the picture shows

The lion looks straight at the viewer. The mane is built from long strands that roll into spirals, beaded from pale yellow and sand through copper to chocolate, and those shifts are what create the volume. The muzzle is kept light, with fine white pearl accents: the bridge of the nose, the nostrils and the chin are worked in silvery white, and the eyes are blue with dark lashes. A round medallion with the Leo glyph hangs on the circle above. The ring is double and made of small gold beads. The background is printed on the canvas — a warm pink-gold surface with faint pale veining, against which the beaded figure looks almost sculptural.
