Description

“Cancer” is an ornamental crayfish set in green and turquoise water. The colouring is cool and the drawing is full of lacework detail.

What the picture shows

The figure fills almost the whole circle: elongated claws rise upward, long antennae reach toward the edge, and a wide fan-shaped tail opens at the bottom. Shell and legs are worked in rows of lime, emerald, yellow-green and white beads with fine dotted accents, which makes the pattern look carved. A round medallion with the spiral Cancer glyph sits on the left, and a pale spiral with a few pearly bubbles curls above the claw on the right. The background is printed on the canvas: wavy shifts of turquoise, blue and green like a body of water. Beadwork covers the figure, the circle and the small details, so the silhouette separates crisply from the watery ground.
